LubriSyn™ is an odorless, tasteless, colorless oral liquid with hyaluronic acid as its main component. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring part of tissues and is a primary constituent of synovial fluid, the viscous substance that lubricates joints and allows two adjacent cartilage caps to glide upon one another with minimal friction.
Chemistry: Sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, hyaluronan and HA are terms for the same glycosaminoglycan that can exist in different forms depending on their chemical environment. This glycosaminoglycan is composed of repeating subunits of D-Glucuronic acid and N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine connected with glycosidic bonds. Because LubriSyn (sodium hyaluronate) is extracted from a microbial source, it is free of dermatan, chondroitin sulfate and other glycosaminoglycan contamination.
Pharmacology: HA is highly bio-compatible and bio-degradable. It regulates normal cellular constituents, decreasing the impact of exudation, enzyme release and subsequent degradation of joint integrity.
Contraindications: There are no known contraindications for the use of LubriSyn oral liquid in horses.
Toxicology: LubriSyn was administered at two, three and five times the recommended maintenance dosage of 75 mg daily for 90 days with no adverse effects upon hematology or clinical chemistry parameters observed.
Side Effects: There have been no local or systemic side effects observed in the field trials.
